4 Things to Keep in Mind While Thrift Shopping

I've talked to some friends lately, and they've been asking me how I manage to find good pieces amidst all the stuff in thrift stores. I've only been thrifting for a few years now, but here are some tips that I hope can help with your next thrifting venture!
  1. Be prepared for digging and disappointment. Thrift shopping is not glamorous and there will be times when you'll search for half an hour and see absolutely nothing interesting. It's not guaranteed that you'll find a dream piece every time you shop, I'm sorry to say. However, don't lose hope here! Just remember that you have to be in the right mindset to go thrifting.

  2. Find out when stores are having sales. Large thrift shops like Salvation Army and Goodwill usually have sales every other weekend where everything in the store is 50% off. This is the best time to shop, so do your research!

  3. Go with friends. Thrifting is more fun in community. Partly because your friends will be able to tell you if something is great or ugly. Also because having friends along makes thrifting more fun, especially when you can't find anything you like.

  4. Come with an open mind. Why not go for that full-on sequin dress that you normally would never have touched? It doesn't hurt to try on crazy things just for the fun of it. You're thrifting, have some fun! And hey, you may just end up buying those velvet pants because they ended up fitting really well.
Happy thrifting, folks!
